Axun: Yes, the world is always enlightened, quiet, joyful and beautiful, but we could be aware of this uniting beauty only when we are enlightened. Otherwise we will miss a tiny thing called life.

阿勋:世界一直是开启着的,静合悦美,但是只有当你开启心的时候,你才能看到世界美好合一的真相,否则,你就正在错过一个小小的东西:“你的生命”。

Date with My Heart, March 26, 2010

The mustard green door in the hospital, with it’s old but noble look, was very attractive. I stared at the elegant door for a significant period of time. I didn’t think much about the piece of wood, which was showing signs of age, but still sturdy, and rather strong. I simply noticed its beauty.

I sat in the hallway of a Chinese hospital today waiting for a friend of mine, who accompanied me there to help me sort out my back troubles. As I sat waiting in the brightly lit hallway from the sun shining in the blue sky above, I was feeling rather sorry for myself--I was downtrodden over my inability to transcend my mind. I sat waiting, and in that moment I became aware of the life that was flowing and moving all around me. The doctors with their white coats, the patients trying to navigate their way around, the fresh feel of outside just to my back, with only a window separating me from it, and the wooden, mustard green door, that said so much without saying anything.

The door, to me, symbolized the beauty that existed in the hospital, a place where compassion and care resided, and where a sense of humanity pervaded. I saw history through the door. The door told me: yes, this building has been around for a long, long time, and many people have passed through these halls. In that moment I felt love, mystery, and a sense of wonder.

It’s amazing how through awareness I can find life in the inanimate. I can find beauty in an old, green, wooden door. What’s even more amazing: I consider the time I spent on a yellow chair, in a crowded, well-known hospital in Beijing, looking at people walk by and a wooden door, an enlightening and spiritual moment.
